MMAM: Memories of Titanic

Explore art and objects associated with the loss and shipwreck of RMS Titanic. On view will be a young survivor’s riveting first-hand account of the disaster, including the loss of her father, in her diary and personal letters. Also included are paintings by American artist Colin Campbell Cooper from when he was aboard the rescue ship Carpathia, and a ship model, original telegrams, and more.

Pandemic Portrait Project

Over fourty students taking fine art photography classes at Winona State University were given an assignment to photograph strangers in a socially-distanced, safe way. This project was inspired and informed by a workshop students participated in virtually with renowned Twin Cities-based photographer Wing Young Huie. Huie is celebrated internationally for his storefront exhibitions in St. Paul and Minneapolis. One community member also participated in the project. Votes For Women: A Portrait Of Persistence – A Poster Exhibit from the Smithsonian

The crusade for women’s suffrage is one of the longest reform movements in American history. Between 1832 and 1920, women citizens organized for the right to vote, agitating first in their states or territories and also, simultaneously, through petitioning for a federal amendment. Based on the National Portrait Gallery exhibition of the same name, Votes for Women will broaden visitors’ understanding of the suffrage movement in the United States. Vote for Quilts

 Vote for Quilts features creations from the Women’s Right to Vote: Revolution and Evolution quilt challenge. 36 twenty-four inch square quilts were made by quilters from across the nation in celebration the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote. MMAM: Greg DeGrace: Driftless

With varying degrees of abstraction, Minneapolis painter Greg DeGrace’s paintings reference the Driftless region of Minnesota and Wisconsin, an area that escaped the flattening effects of glaciers during the last ice age. Working in encaustic wax and pigment to create textural paintings, DeGrace references maps, aerial photographs, linear and geometric patterns found in roadways and plots of land with the natural, free-flowing forms of area waterways.
