About Saint Mary’s University Hiking and Skiing Trails

Some of the best trails in southern Minnesota! Tucked in the valley behind the school, the trails run around the northern slopes of the valley making them quite challenging and also well protected from the sun.

In the winter, explore 16.5K of groomed classic and skate ski trails right on the 450-acre Saint Mary’s University campus in Winona. Glide through wooded valleys, along Gilmore Creek, and over bluffs with sweeping views of the city and river. The only college campus in the Midwest with lighted trails, Saint Mary’s offers a 2.5K illuminated loop for evening skiing, plus snowmaking and a Nordic ski center.

Trails range from gentle green loops for beginners to blue intermediate runs, and challenging black trails with long climbs and fast descents for advanced skiers. Whether you’re practicing technique, building endurance, or chasing adventure, Saint Mary’s trails make winter in Winona unforgettable.
