About Sugarloaf Community Theatre
We strive to create positive and educational theatre environments for all ages in the community!
Sugarloaf Community Theatre is a new community theatre organization in Winona, MN! It was started by 15-year-old Seamus Schwaba in 2022. Sugarloaf Community Theatre’s mission is to create positive theatre environments for all ages in the Winona community. We also want to thank our wonderful board members for all the hard work they do.
Every year Sugarloaf Theatre does at least three productions, including a musical, a theatre for young audiences play, and a 24-hour theatre event.
We are working on obtaining independent, non-profit status. In the meantime, donations made to Sugarloaf Theatre are tax-deductible thanks to fiscal sponsorship by River Arts Alliance. If you want to help us make a difference in the arts we invite you to make a donation online here or by sending a donation to River Arts Alliance at PO Box 992, Winona, MN 55987 with a note that the donation is to Sugarloaf Theatre.
Our biggest event every year is the musical! The musical usually happens in the summer. So far we have had three summer musicals, including Deep in the City, an original musical written by our founder and Executive Director, Snoopy!!! The Musical, a funny and delightful musical based on the Peanuts comic strip, and Through the Looking Glass, a wonderful and wacky show based on Lewis Carroll’s classic novel. The goal of the musical is to bring people together every year through the joy of theatre. We are proud that we have been able to do this every year!
Theatre for young audiences is always a blast. So far we’ve done three theatre for young audiences shows, including The Rainbow Fish, a fun and joyful play based on the children’s book, Sleeping Beauty vs the Not so Evil Fairy, a silly retelling of the classic fairy tale written by our founder and Executive Director, and Tales from the Barnyard, a vignette style show also written by our founder and Executive Director.
24-Hour Theatre is such a fun experience. During 24-hour theatre we write, rehearse, and perform three original plays in 24 hours. So far we’ve done three 24-hour theatre events including Upon a Snowy Eve, where all of our plays had a winter/holiday theme, Once Upon a Time in Winona, where all of our plays had a historical theme, and Warp to Winona, where all the plays had a fun Sci-Fi theme.
