artsXchange: Terri Karsten

August 16 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Terri Karsten will lead an ArtsXchange conversation about connecting visual arts (such as painting) with written arts (such as poetry and prose). While words can ‘paint’ a picture and describe sounds and smells to enrich the setting, it is up to the reader to imagine the scene. Visual arts provide a clearer view, but still require imagination to evoke other sensory input. How can these two forms interact? Participants in the conversation will tour the museum, choose a painting to write about, and spend some time writing. The session will conclude with sharing the writing and discussing the process.

Karsten is a published author of a variety of fiction and nonfiction pieces. Her work includes historical fiction novels (such as A Mistake of Consequence), steampunk shorts (such as Calliope in Under A Brass Moon), and non-fiction (such as Snags and Sawyers: 2000 Miles Down the Arkansas River.)
