Victorian Winona: Through the Lens of Charles Tenney

Charles Tenney (1847 – 1917) and his partners left a large collection of their photographs behind when they retired from their photography business in Winona in 1892. Many of these images are now the property of the Winona County Historical Society. These photographs include stereograms, which are double images used with a special viewer called a stereoscope to create a three-dimensional image and what are known cabinet prints, which are mounted on card stock. This exhibit will feature this popular photographer’s unique images of dogs diving underwater. His images have gone viral online and resulted in a New York Times best selling book, yet this is his first major museum exhibition. The Minnesota Marine Art Museum is home to a world-class collection that includes works by Picasso, Monet, and Van Gogh as well as works of well-known Hudson River and Impressionist artists. MMAM also hosts traveling collections of paintings, photography and other water-themed art.

La Gomera: The Island Lost in Time

Edward Hoffman will be exhibiting  color photographs from the island of La Gomera in the Spanish Canary Islands. Hoffman has been traveling to La Gomera for months-long stays each of the past three winters, documenting his time on mountain trails, in abandoned settlement ruins, and at public festivals, as well as learning about the history and culture of the small island.
