This is New York features scenes of this iconic American city. Included are the wide variety that New York offers; Central Park, South Street, Battery Park, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Statue of Liberty, among others. Among the artists whose works represent aspects of New York City, dating from the past 150 years, are images by Joseph Stella, Charles Sheeler, John Stobart, Jack Gray, Edward Lamson Henry, Dusan Kadlec, Rudolf Croneau, and James Henry Cafferty, and a new historical painting…

Anna Metcalfe: Upstream

Upstream features works by artist Anna Metcalfe that focus on her decade-long investigation of the waters of the Upper Midwest. With a background in clay, Metcalfe is interested in how social engagement is endemic to craft and how it can be a conduit for social and environmental change. Her work investigates relationship to landscape and water through community storytelling and personal narrative. Works will include ceramic installation and community-engaged projects that reflect the artist’s abiding connection with water.

Maria Svarbova: Swimming Pool

Maria Svarbova creates colorful and atmospheric photographs of Socialist era swimming pools in her native country of Slovakia. Her figures are carefully composed, yet detached from the viewer, creating soothing, dreamlike scenes which offer silence, contemplation, beauty, and mystery. Her style is simultaneously retro and futuristic, and her warm, aqueous palette is pleasing and inviting. Svarbova has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions through out Europe, but this is the first US museum solo exhibition of this award winning photographer.

The Portrait Project: Photographs of People and a Cat

Mary Farrell is a local photographer and documentary filmmaker. The exhibit is a collection of color photographs that are mostly of people and a few of her cat. She is captivated by both people and natural light and combines them together to create a portrait that has a visual and personal impact.

An exhibit of kites and kite flying by professional kite flyer Robert Scott Aldrich. Aldrich’s collection of kites consists of various delta and diamond forms and animal kites including four cat kites and two fish kites from Singapore. An F-Stop spinner, kite banners and socks can be seen hung from his kites. The public is invited to a reception for the exhibit on Friday, January 11 from 5-6:30pm. Dancescape

WSU’s Theatre & Dance presents the 29th annual Dancescape concert on the Vivian Fusillo stage in the Robert A. DuFresne Performing Arts Center. Performances run Thursday, February 14 -Saturday,  February 16 at 7:30pm. The production includes modern, contemporary, jazz and experimental dance, featuring 31 dancers and innovative choreography by students, faculty, and guest artists.
