MMAM: Memories of Titanic
Explore art and objects associated with the loss and shipwreck of RMS Titanic. On view will be a young survivor’s riveting first-hand account of the disaster, including the loss of her father, in her diary and personal letters. Also included are paintings by American artist Colin Campbell Cooper from when he was aboard the rescue ship Carpathia, and a ship model, original telegrams, and more.

During the month of January, the walls of the Acoustic Cafe, 77 Lafayette Street, downtown Winona, will feature work by local artist Patrick Grace. Grace’s new work was developed from nearly 300 sketches and studies he posted on Instagram over the past year. Tony Duran is an award-winning commercial, fashion, celebrity portrait, and architectural photographer. This Winona, Minnesota born artist spent many years working freelance all over the world and has lived in Los Angeles, California for the last two decades. On exhibit are oil and pastel paintings by Northfield, MN artist Frederick D. Somers. For more than 50 years, Somers’ works reflect themes from the land. Whether in intimate views of grass, rocks and water with reflections of light and sky, or in spacious vistas of the countryside, he seeks to share the hidden places of nature. He continues to inspire other through his painting workshops in the United States and Scandinavia.

Visiting Artist Lecture: Jamie Ho
Artist Jamie Ho will speak with the Winona State community about her artwork that accompanies her exhibition, Canton Gulf, both in the Watkins gallery and online. This event is supported by the Art Department and the University Theme. Canton Gulf is an ongoing photographic series that aims to preserve and examine Ho’s parents’ legacy and question if home is defined by geography or by embedded traditions. MMAM Exhibit: 20th Century British Master Marine Artists
On display are paintings of historic and contemporary marine scenes by several of the best British marine artists of the 20th century. See works from the MMAM collection by Roy Cross, Montague Dawson, Louis Dodd, Henry Scott, and William Bishop, exploring a variety of subjects such as seascapes, ship portraits, naval battles, whaling vessels, and river steamboats.
