Art Exhibit: Good Grief: Healing Through Art

Local watercolorist, Faye Schoen, will have her work on display in Winona Public Library’s Bell Art Room.  The title of her exhibit, Good Grief: Healing Through Art Exhibit, reminds us that art can help heal our souls in times of sadness. Art has especially helped Schoen through the journey of grief during the loss of her dearest friend and husband of 40 years. Schoen will give a talk on her work on Friday, September 20th at 3:30PM.

Victorian Winona: Through the Lens of Charles Tenney

Charles Tenney (1847 – 1917) and his partners left a large collection of their photographs behind when they retired from their photography business in Winona in 1892. Many of these images are now the property of the Winona County Historical Society. These photographs include stereograms, which are double images used with a special viewer called a stereoscope to create a three-dimensional image and what are known cabinet prints, which are mounted on card stock. Manipulating fabric and fabric-like materials, quilt artists interpret water as one of the most vital, desired, powerful, sacred, and enjoyed resources on earth in H2Oh! Art Quilts. This exhibition features 34 unique pieces created by members of Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the art quilt.

The 23rd annual hair-raising fundraiser for the Saint Mary’s Cardinal fastpitch softball team will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 18-19 and 25-26, and Thursday, Oct. 31, in the campus bluffs. Walkers are asked to meet on the lighted path between the Cardinal baseball and softball fields, where the haunted walk will begin.  Groups are then escorted through the dark bluffs for approximately 20 minutes.
