Anna Metcalfe: Upstream

Upstream features works by artist Anna Metcalfe that focus on her decade-long investigation of the waters of the Upper Midwest. With a background in clay, Metcalfe is interested in how social engagement is endemic to craft and how it can be a conduit for social and environmental change. Her work investigates relationship to landscape and water through community storytelling and personal narrative. Works will include ceramic installation and community-engaged projects that reflect the artist’s abiding connection with water.

Maria Svarbova: Swimming Pool

Maria Svarbova creates colorful and atmospheric photographs of Socialist era swimming pools in her native country of Slovakia. Her figures are carefully composed, yet detached from the viewer, creating soothing, dreamlike scenes which offer silence, contemplation, beauty, and mystery. Her style is simultaneously retro and futuristic, and her warm, aqueous palette is pleasing and inviting. Svarbova has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions through out Europe, but this is the first US museum solo exhibition of this award winning photographer.

Exhibit: Whitewater State Park Turns 100

Whitewater State Park is nestled in the Whitewater river valley between St. Charles and Elba, Minnesota. The Park was established in 1919 and has a vast and interesting history that includes a CCC camp, floods, WWII German POWs, and much more. Eagle Viewing Field Trips

National Eagle Center field trips occur during the height of eagle viewing season from November to April. Art Exhibit: Leslie Barlow, Quiet Enigmas and Familiar Love

Leslie Barlow is a visual artist living and working in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  The centering of her grandmothers in this series comes from the desire to connect intergenerational intersections of race and gender, and speak to the complexities of a family’s multiracial relationships. She currently teaches at the University of Minnesota and Juxtaposition Arts, and has a studio in the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District. Ceramic works by Lisa Truax: Recollection of Space

This exhibit consists of various sized round, ceramic wheel thrown forms, whose interiors range in color and texture depending on the various found materials that have been incorporated. Her works titles such as “42.5847425, -87.8211853, 2017” reflect the locations of the sourced items. Truax is currently an Associate Professor of Art and Design at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota in Winona. The public is invited to a reception for the exhibit on Thursday, March 7 from 4:30-6:00pm.

Jim Reineke will host an evening of mandolin music on the third Wednesday of the month. He will try out some jazz chord solos, blues and ragtime songs, and maybe even some classical mandolin solos. Most evenings he will be playing solo, but some times he will bring friends to add a little pizzazz.
