Join the WOC (Winona Outdoor Collaborative) for their February Outing! This free event will take participants on a backwater hike through the frozen waters of the Mississippi River. Meet the WOC team at Latsch Beach (before the wagon bridge). The hike will begin from there, going back behind Aghaming Park and into the backwaters. On display are paintings of historic and contemporary marine scenes by several of the best British marine artists of the 20th century. See works from the MMAM collection by Roy Cross, Montague Dawson, Louis Dodd, Henry Scott, and William Bishop, exploring a variety of subjects such as seascapes, ship portraits, naval battles, whaling vessels, and river steamboats.

This exhibition features photographs by 39 national and international photographers exploring the theme of water. Their images were selected by jury and printed in the summer 2019 issue of Shots, The Quarterly Journal of Black & White Photography, published by St. Paul, MN photographer Douglas Beasley. The artists’ photographs have a wide range of styles ranging from detailed to panoramic, realism to abstraction, and personal and intimate to accessible, in their responses to water.

This special two-gallery exhibition features a variety of art in different mediums from more than 100 of the best contemporary marine artists producing some of their finest work, drawing inspiration from their relationship with water. Artworks include paintings, watercolors, drawings, sculpture, scrimshaw, and mixed media. Founded in 1978, the American Society of Marine Artists is the nation’s oldest and largest non-profit organization dedicated to marine art and history.
