The Families Love Travel website included Winona as one its top exciting places for families to visit within 3 hours of the Twin Cities. Winona is less than 3 hours, 2.5 to be exact, from the Twin Cities and is located along the Great River Road. This kid-friendly community is a “haven for hiking, art, history and more.” A full day itinerary starts with a visit to Bloedow Bakery, Winona’s historic and award winning bakery. The Great River Bluffs State Park offers some very scenic and child -friendly hiking trails. The Minnesota Marine Art Museum displays world-renowned artists like Picasso and Van Gogh and is has activities for children. A Mississippi River tour on the Winona Tour Boat that explores the history and habitat is an educational opportunity for children and adults alike. Last but not least is a stop at Nate and Ally’s Frozen Treat Creations featuring frozen yogurt and hard scooped ice cream.
