KTTC Television visits Winona

What do Steamboat Days, H3O Jazz Jam and the Juneteenth celebrations all have in common? They were all featured on Rochester’s  KTTC television this weekend. KTTC made the rounds in Winona on Sunday to cover multiple events that were happening.

The annual Steamboat Days Grande parade was held along Broadway Street featuring 30 parade units. Both military and high school bands were represented along with beauty pageant celebrities and local business and organization handing out candy to children.

Island City Brewing hosts a monthly jazz jam on the third Sunday of every month and the H3O Jazz Trio performs during the jam and invites the audience to also sing a tune or play an instrument. The trio is made up of a father and two sons who have been performing at the jam since 2017. It was Father’s day and pianist Eric Heukeshoven said “I can’t personally think of a nicer way to spend Father’s Day than to be playing with my two sons.”   Proceeds from the jams are donated to local non-profits and the event has raised $13,000 since 2017.

Our Voices, a non-profit organization, hosted its second annual  Juneteenth celebration The celebration created an awareness of the federal holiday which is “the actual day where all of us were freed…” said Ajsha Morgan. There were speeches, performances and art making.
