Milwaukee Journal Sentinel writes about the Amtrak Borealis service, which runs between Milwaukee and the Twin Cities, seeing an impressive ridership in its first month of operation, with over 18,500 passengers. This new service is part of a broader initiative to enhance passenger rail options in the Midwest, and it offers a competitive travel alternative to driving.
The Borealis service features amenities such as wide reclining seats, free Wi-Fi, and scenic views of the Mississippi River, making it an attractive option for travelers. Ticket prices start at around $40, providing an affordable and comfortable travel experience.
Amtrak’s CEO Stephen Gardner highlighted that Minnesota is now the 18th state partner, and this service is the 29th state-supported rail corridor in the country. He noted the resurgence in train travel post-pandemic, stating, “When we put it out there, when we make it happen people come, people are coming in droves to ride trains all over the United States.”
The service, a collaborative effort between the Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois Departments of Transportation, aims to meet growing demand for passenger rail and improve connectivity in the region.
