StarTribune writes that Amtrak’s new Borealis route between St. Paul and Chicago has surpassed expectations, with over 18,500 passengers in its first month, aligning with the projected 232,000 annual riders. This route has even turned a rare profit for Amtrak, making $100,000. Departing daily from both cities, the 7.5-hour trip sees higher ridership westbound from Chicago. The service is expected to grow, especially with the fall influx of students. “The number of rides in the first month clearly demonstrates the need for this route,” said MnDOT Commissioner Nancy Daubenberger.
