The groundbreaking ceremony for the 60 Main hotel-apartment project in downtown Winona was held by developers along with city officials and the Winona Area Chamber of Commerce and Winona Post was there to report. This project aims to boost local business and attract new residents. Key features include a mixed-use building with 24 apartments and 75 hotel rooms, of which 24 will be extended stay. The latter will cater to longer-term guests with amenities like kitchens and laundry services, filling a unique niche in Winona’s accommodation market. “That’s filling a need we don’t currently have in Winona,” said Dan Rivers, Operations Manager of Rivers Hospitality.

The project includes the renovation of the former Jefferson’s Pub into a restaurant and event space, managed by Heirloom Seasonal Bistro and partnering with Two Fathoms Brewing. Extensive work will be done on the building’s exterior and its large outdoor patios.

The development is expected to support and synergize with other local projects, notably the Minnesota Masterpiece Hall, an arts and music venue aimed at attracting national visitors. The cumulative impact of these developments is hoped to energize downtown, encouraging further investment and new businesses.

Local community development director Lucy McMartin emphasized the economic benefits and local involvement in the project, expressing excitement about its positive effects on the downtown area. The city has supported the project with tax increment financing, land sales, and property acquisition. Developers aim to complete the hotel-apartment building by fall 2025.
