National Eagle Center to Host Q&A with Famed Ornithologist David Allen Sibley

The National Eagle Center is planning an encore to the U.S. Postal Service’s “Bald Eagle: Hatchling to Adult” commemorative Forever stamp first-day-of-issue ceremony on Thursday, May 14, 2026. Following the FREE public ceremony at 11 a.m. in the Riverfront Auditorium at the Center, famed ornithologist and artist David Allen Sibley will participate in a Q&A session at 2 p.m. in the Riverfront Amphitheater.

Sibley is the author and illustrator of several bird books including The Sibley Guide to Birds, The Sibley Guide to Bird Life & Behavior, The Sibley Guide to Trees, Hawks in Flight, and his most recent book What It’s Like to Be a Bird. Used by millions of birders, from novices to experts, The Sibley Guide to Birds is the standard by which natural history guides are measured. He has sold more than 1.75 million copies of his books.

“David Allen Sibley is an icon in American ornithology,” said Ed Hahn, Director of Development and Marketing Communications at the Center. “We are very excited to host this event and provide members of the public to hear about his artwork, books, and his life as a birder.”

In 2002, he received the Roger Tory Peterson Award from the American Birding Association for lifetime achievement in promoting the cause of birding.

Members of the public are invited to attend both events. Attendees of the U.S. Postal Service’s first-day-of-issue ceremony at 11 a.m. are encouraged to RSVP online at usps.com/baldeaglestamps.

The Q&A session will be moved indoors in case of rain.
