MMAM to Open Two Exhibits in May

This May, the Minnesota Marine Art Museum is opening two exhibitions featuring the works of two world renown artists, painter Maarten Platje and photographer Alec Soth.

Running May 3 through August 18 is Maarten Platje: The Early History of the U.S. Navy. This exhibition features recent paintings by Dutch marine painter Maarten Platje showcasing historic moments in the early years of the United States Navy. His paintings are richly detailed, technically accurate, and extensively researched to provide a realistic portrayal of historic ships, battles, and events.

Opening May 9 and running through September 1, is Alec Soth: Sleeping by the Mississippi. Minnesota artist Alec Soth is one of the most celebrated, awarded, and acclaimed photographers working today. His award-winning book and photography series, Sleeping by the Mississippi, explores the landscape of the Mississippi River and people living along its banks.
