Join us for the Winona All-Call! Winona LaDuke, nationally recognized Native activist, is turning 60 years old, and she is calling all women with the name Winona, all the “First Daughters” to bring themselves, families and friends to a birthday party weekend Aug. 23-25. FRFF will be showing her film, First Daughter and the Black Snake at the Winona County Historical Society August 24th at 1:30. Director Keri Pickett will be in attendance for a Q&A. This is a free screening.

Mr. Vilaro has infused Ballet Hispánico’s legacy with a bold and eclectic brand of contemporary dance that reflects America’s changing cultural landscape. Ambassadors from Winona's Sister City, Misato, Japan, will be visiting Winona the last week of October. They will be offering a Misato Fair, sharing activities and demos about Japanese culture, at the History Center. The open house style event will be from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. Admission is just $3 per person and is taken at the door. Proceeds benefit the Winona International Friendship Association and Winona County Historical Society.

The “lover’s leap” legend of Princess Wenonah has many versions and has had many disputes since early Euro-Amer­icans romanticized the Dakota word for “first born daugh­ter” upon choosing a new name for Wapasha’s Prairie. She does have a true story, however, in the form of a bronze statue that honors the love of a husband for his late wife. Victorian Winona: Through the Lens of Charles Tenney

Charles Tenney (1847 - 1917) and his partners left a large collection of their photographs behind when they retired from their photography business in Winona in 1892. Many of these images are now the property of the Winona County Historical Society. These photographs include stereograms, which are double images used with a special viewer called a stereoscope to create a three-dimensional image and what are known cabinet prints, which are mounted on card stock. An exhibition drawn from a collection of over 150 watercolor paintings created by Lydia Curtis. Curtis created the pictures between 1958 and 1973, finding specimens near her home in St. Paul and then later in Morris, Minnesota.

Wildflowers of the Upper Midwest is an exhibition drawn for a collection of over 150 watercolor paintings created by Lydia Curtis. She created these pictures between 1958 and 1973, finding specimens near her home in St. Paul and then later Morris, Minnesota.
