The City of Winona and various regional outdoor recreation groups’ efforts have culminated in the beginning of a multi-year trail expansion project in the bluffs of Winona.
The Bluffs Traverse trail-building project will improve hiking and biking trail options with an end goal of connecting Sugar Loaf Park, Garvin Heights, and Bluffside Park. The Winona Post recently published an article, “Long-awaited trail work underway,” highlighting the timeline and scope of the trail updates, including the addition of 5.6 new miles of trails. All four new trails are slated to be complete by October of this year.
Residents and visitors should adhere to trail closure signs as marked on the current Bluffside Park paths, due to construction work. The public is invited to submit trail name or theme ideas and/or join the City of Winona Trail Naming Committee. The Trail Naming Committee will be tasked with reviewing public submissions and presenting a narrowed down list to the Park Rec Department. They will also be tasked with making decisions on the current trail system names and whether they get renamed or not.
