Sandbar Storytelling Festival to host residency with Katie Knutson & free workshops, presentations

Winona’s Sandbar Storytelling Festival is featuring a free summer residency with professional Minneapolis storyteller Katie Knutson.

Enjoy performances and workshops for youth, families, or audiences of all ages, throughout the Winona area, June 19-22, 2024. Participating organizations include: Winona Public Library, Winona East End Rec Center, BaseCamp, La Crescent Public Library, Rushford Public Library, and Kinstone Circle.

Knutson, who has performed on three continents, is the executive director of Northeast Storytelling and a skilled arts integration specialist. She enjoys promoting social justice through storytelling.

These events are free of charge, made possible through a grant from The Winona Community Foundation and the generosity of AmericInn.

This program, designed for the littlest listeners, will have parents and children dancing, chanting, clapping, and stomping their way through stories, poems, and songs. Knutson can’t do all of that by herself, so she will bring along some of her puppet friends to help.

Rachel Louise Carson (1907-1964) was an American marine biologist, writer, and conservationist whose sea trilogy and book, “Silent Spring,” are credited with advancing marine conservation and the global environmental movement. Following the performance, Knutson will offer a Q&A as both herself and in character as Carson.
