Holidaze: Celebrating Many Cultures and Traditions

This free event will feature an assortment of fun performances: songs, stories, instrumentals, crafts and holiday observances from different lands and faith traditions. Performances will be held in the gallery level of the Winona Art Center with children’s craft activities offered in the building’s lower level (1-3PM). Ray Kiihne: A Painter’s Journey 1963-2021

This exhibit features nearly 60 years of work by Ray Kiihne, an abstract minimalist painter and mixed-media-artist. Kiihne’s works include bold flat pattern acrylic paintings, unframed stitched canvases, photography, encaustics, and printmaking.  His single-color works investigate the emotional impact of an individual hue. The show includes some 30 works. Many are stretched canvases, but also unstretched works of pieced and sewn canvas which have been painted or stained with acrylic and hung on rods. Live Music: String Ties Christmas Show

The famed laCrosse area bluegrass band has honed its popular yuletide show over the last 10 years, with tight vocal harmonies and powerful playing. It's a fresh and heart-warming take on the melodies of the season. A movie based on the true story of a Ugandan chess champion, written by William Wheeler. Starring David Oyelowo and Lupita Nyong’o, the film depicts the life of Phiona Mutesi who lives in Katwe, the slums of Kampala. After learning to play chess, her life changes when she discovers she has an amazing talent for chess.

After a long and unsuccessful struggle to get pregnant, Satoko and her husband decide to adopt a child. Over the next six years, the middle-class couple and their son Asato settle into a comfortable routine until the arrival of Hikari, who claims to be the biological mother. Weaving together multiple timelines and genres, the film is a touching celebration of women who assume the duties of love and support.
