Back in 2010, as a young AmeriCorps member, Sam Brown began hatching plans for what would become Mid West Music Fest having no clue that it would be the foundation for an arts organization that would go on to host hundreds of bands and bring together thousands of people. So, this year, we all celebrated 15 years of music and community together in Winona, Minnesota. The beautiful Levee Park overlooking the Mississippi River, surrounded by trails and beautiful scenery was home base and site of the main stage, one of seven venues at the 15th anniversary of MWMF. Locals and visitors both got to enjoy a lineup of over 50 music artists from various genres and cities. Surrounded by everything Levee Park and downtown Winona had to offer, the magical proceedings of our long running music festival has undeniably become a regional favorite for concert goers. Here’s to 15 more years!
Levee Main Stage
Facing the Mississippi River, the main stage situated on the upper Levee with food trucks and vendors on the lower Levee acted as the main grounds for the fest and the ticketing area. Some highlights from this stage included RAFFAELLA(pictured), Never Wreck, and Heiruspecs.
Two Fathoms Brewing
Formerly Island City Brewing Co, Two Fathoms Brewing along with ICBC had been a staple of MWMF and local music in recent years. With new beers and new owners, they continue the traditional of greatness everyone has come to expect with some new twists as well. Some highlights from this stage included Christy Costello(pictured), Porcupine, and Mike Munson Trio.
No Name Bar
Play pinball, have a craft cocktail, or just rock out at the No Name Bar. Some of the biggest and best to visit the area have played this joint over the years. Throughout MWMF’s and Winona’s musical history, this venue has played a major role in an enduring legacy of music. Some highlights from this stage included Killusonline(pictured), Black Eyed Snakes, and Mark Mallman.
Peter’s Biergarten
Peter’s Biergarten has been a MWMF venue since its opening in 2022. This outdoor beer garden serves a range of brews, has seating, standing room, and games for all and you can bring in food from the nearby eateries. Some highlights from this stage included Sheep for Wheat(pictured), Chutes, and Timisarocker.
Eagles Club
The Winona Eagles Club utilized its own room next to the bar area which was low lit and set away from everything else allowing attendees to listen to music in an intimate and atmospheric setting. Some highlights from this stage included Nathan Graham(pictured), JE Sunde, and Rogue Valley.
Acoustic Cafe
With a full menu of hoagies, soups, and the like, Acoustic Cafe was a great stop for both food and music during the fest. Most of the performers there were singer-songwriters and it was also one of the free venues. Some highlights from this stage included Bev(pictured) and Chris Koza.
Blooming Grounds
Blooming Grounds Coffee House hosts music in their downtown establishment year-round. And it’s free then and was during the festival as well. It provided a great spot to grab a coffee or some food while also checking out some new music. Some highlights from this stage included Cass Magpie(pictured) and Theyself.
Free Family Activities
Family fun at the Levee incluced activities like face painting, yoga, and an art workshop. Festival goers explored the Maker’s Market featuring handmade goods by area vendors, and had the chance to catch entertainment like the Dangerous Fun Show’s sideshow stunts and puppet shows by Dr. Bob along with creations by talented balloon artists.
