Frozen River Film Festival

Winona’s Frozen River Film Festival 2016 will be held February 24 – 28. Documentary films, speakers, and special events will make their annual Winter return to the area, including this year’s keynote speaker, Frederick Ndabaramiye.

Frederick Ndabaramiye is a survivor of the 1990s Rwandan genocide, during which he lost his hands and was left for dead. With the realization that the only way forward was to move past hate and anger and embrace forgiveness and action, he helped found the Ubumwe Community Center.  Ndabaramiye has made it his mission to show people around the world that disability does not mean inability.

In the short film, “I Am Able.” Ndabaraniye paints and narrates the story of his life. Two opportunities to hear Ndabaramiye’s story will be on February 26 at 7:”30 p.m. in the Page Theatre at Saint Mary’s University, and on February 28 at 10 a.m. at Winona State University.

The FRFF is also excited to announce the screening of films at the downtown Winona 7 theater during the Saturday, February 27, morning film set. Keep checking back at frff.org for updates on the film schedule and program.

For a taste of what the 2016 festival has in store, mark your calendars for Shack Shorts.  Enjoy a series of free adrenaline films during Winona’s Winter Carnival on February 13, from 11:30am – 1:30pm, near Lake Lodge.

Festival passes can be purchased online at frff.org.  Passes and tickets can also be purchased at any festival film event and at Chapter 2 Books (121 W. 3rd St.), beginning February 15.  The FRFF looks forward to seeing you at this year’s festival.
