Lecture on Conservation at MN Marine Art Museum

Like anything, artwork sometimes needs special care or repair. What we see hanging in museums across the world, didn’t necessarily come to that institution in the state in which we see it.

The Minnesota Marine Art museum will explore this aspect of work by hosting an upcoming lecture by Megan Emery, the Chief Conservator and Senior Objects Conservator at the Midwest Art Conservation Center (MACC) in Minneapolis.

The Winona Daily News reports that Emery will, “discuss what art conservation is and how it differs from restoration while sharing examples of recently completed projects at MACC. These projects include large-scale works, a Rembrandt etching and the treatment of the frame for the Minnesota Marine Art Museum’s own “Washington Crossing the Delaware” by Emanuel Leutze.”

This event is free and will be held on Tuesday, July 30th from 6:00 – 7:00 pm.

Winona is privileged to be home to this major art museum. The Minnesota Marine Art Museum is home to a world-class collection that includes works by Picasso, Monet, and Van Gogh as well as works of well-known Hudson River and Impressionist artists. MMAM also hosts traveling collections of paintings, photography and other water-themed art.
