Visit Winona’s Kate Carlson Receives ‘Rising Star’ Honor

7 Rivers Region Rising Stars Young Leaders in the Dripless Area

Visit Winona’s partnership director, Kate Carlson, was singled out amongst young community leaders in the region by receiving a ‘Rising Star’ distinction from the River Valley Media Group and the 7 Rivers Alliance. The honors went to 24 people living in the area, “younger than 40 for making a positive difference in our part of Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa.”

Kate lives in Winona with her husband Adam and two children, Olive and Henry- and has been an all around rock star for Visit Winona since she joined forces with the group.

On her proudest professional accomplishment Kate is quoted as saying, “Work on the Winona Coloring Book has been my proudest professional accomplishment because I was involved from the ‘dreaming’ stage to the final product, as project manager and designer. I saw an opportunity to connect talented, Winona artists and area attractions and businesses to a unique marketing tool: A locally created Winona Coloring Book.” The book went on to receive critical acclaim winning an award with Explore Minnesota, and as a finalist for the Upper Midwest Convention and Visitors’ Bureau McDaniel’s Innovation Award.

Kate also offered advice to other younger leaders, “Reach out to people in their region who are doing things that interest them — whether professionally or personally — and informally interview them. As a journalist, I appreciate when a young person is interested in learning more about the path to success through asking questions. You never know when a referral, internship or job opportunity could come out of a conversation.”

We congratulate Kate on this achievement of excellence!
