(Questions answered by Beech)

What brought you to this profession and what do you enjoy most about it?

“In 1996, I wanted to work with my best friend. I got hired at Broadstreet Café which was fine dining. She worked at a sister restaurant. I was so shy; it helped me break out of my shell. I love customer service. I’ve met some of my closest friends and amazing people. My mom always said, ‘Don’t go into food service,’ but I can’t help it. I love being part of the community and Winona is wonderful.”

What is the inspiration behind the menu at your restaurant?

“Our inspiration is what we would like to eat. Will is an amazing chef. We truly want to give the best we can provide; he is always cooking something delicious.”

What is a customer favorite on your menu and why?

“Fan favorites are the Hamilton (corned beef, ham, salami, swiss cheese, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo and banana peppers), beer cheese soup and the breakfast burritos.”

What is YOUR favorite item on the menu and why?

“I love the Turkey and Cheddar on Jalapeño bread. I eat it every day. It’s classic—a perfect combination.”

What is your favorite food or drink from another area establishment and why?

Rocco’s Pizza, Backwater BBQ, (that jalapeño sausage is my favorite!) and nothing wrong with a cold beer from Market Street Tap, or a cake doughnut from Bloedow’s—those are my favorite, with sprinkles! This was a difficult question.”

What is one thing about this restaurant that people who have never been here should know?

“We slice all our meats, cheeses and vegetables every day. Our bread truly is baked every day. The Winona Sandwich Company has been here for a couple of decades. We are still being ‘found.’ We are a hidden gem in plain sight on Huff Street.”
