2024 World Migratory Bird Day

Each year the Refuge celebrates World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) to encourage support for migratory bird conservation. The theme for this year’s installment of the annual celebration is “Protect Insects, Protect birds”.
On Saturday, May 11th, Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge invites everyone to the Refuge for our Annual Birding Festival! The festival runs from 7:00am to 12:30pm. People can join us for a few hours or for the whole celebration. This is an event for the whole family! Some of the activities include:
-Early bird hikes at 7:00 and 9:00 guided by: Stan Tekiela, Dan Jackson, and Lizzie Condon.
There will be three simultaneous hikes starting at 7:00 am followed by three simultaneous hikes starting at 9:00 am and one hike.
– Guided Bird Hike – Discovering Birds and Beyond at10:30 am, for birding beginners and especially kids between the ages of 4-12!
-Birds Presentations at the Outdoor Wonder Learning Center. The first presentation will be about the Swans in the Mississippi River, by Steven Winter, Wildlife Biologist Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge. The second presentation will be about the Cranes in Wisconsin by the Crane Foundation.
-The River Valley Raptors will be at WMBD too with live raptors! Abbey Krumrie will have her live raptors that she has rehabilitated and will answer questions about these amazing birds.
