Mississippi River Photographs

Nathan Benn served on the National Geographic Society photographic staff from 1972 to 1991. Kodachrome Memory: Both Sides of the Mighty Mississippi, Photographs by Nathan Benn, on exhibit at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum from April 21 to August 27, 2017 are Benn’s selection of images from this period capturing the physical, cultural, social, and aesthetic spirit of the Mississippi River. His often challenging images explore issues of class, race, and social change, which reflect both the profound difference and similarities to life in America today. This exhibition is part of the Museum’s on-going Mississippi River Exhibition Series that explores a range of artists’ expressions inspired by the River.
