New Exhibit at the MMAM

This October the Minnesota Marine Art Museum will open Ryuta Nakajima: Squid & I, An Art and Science Symbiosis. University of Minnesota, Duluth professor Ryuta Nakajima loves cephalopods (octopuses, cuttlefish, and squid) and uses them as inspiration for his innovative and colorful artwork that blend his interests in art with science. He examines the origin of visual communication by exposing color-changing cephalopods to artificial visual stimuli such as images of major 20th century paintings, photographs, and video, and then collects data from his experiments to create paintings, drawings, photographs, video and sculpture. Squid & I runs October 6 through January 7, 2018. A public opening reception with the artist featuring passed hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be held on Thursday, October 5, from 5:00 to 7:00. The reception is free for MMAM members and students, $10 for all others.
