Winona’s Polish Cultural Institute and Museum has seen some new changes since the beginning of the year. Jeff Turkowski was hired as the new director and is initiating some new ideas. He is developing new exhibits, providing genealogy research sessions, and offering more events. An updated website and an online gift shop with more variety are also part of his plan. Turkowski is a “multiculturalist Kashubian” and hopes to preserve the Kashubian history of Winona through revised, updated and more detailed museum information. The museum’s newest exhibit is titled “Sprawa Polska: Holocaust and War Memorial. This exhibit commemorates the 1.9 million Catholic Poles who lost their lives during the Holocaust. The exhibit teaches about the German policies from Ostsiedlung to Lebensraum and the history of the Polish question.” The Polish Cultural Institute and Museum is open from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. Monday – Saturday.
