A chain no more—River City Grill has shed the weight of its former Green Mill skin and offers hotel guests, visitors and locals a true taste of the Winona area by sourcing steaks, sauces and more from local family farms. Soon-to-be open seven days a week, River City Grill is a family-friendly favorite for all.

What brought you to this profession and what do you enjoy most about it?

“I love working in restaurants, whether it is cooking, serving, or bartending. I like the customer interactions and it is a new experience every day.”

 

What is the inspiration behind the menu at your restaurant?

“The inspiration is to make good food that we can source locally. As a ‘spice head’, I’m proud that we are bringing in new and different hot sauces for our fresh wings—our boneless wings are liked by a lot of people, so we want to make them as flavorful as we can.”

 

What is a customer favorite on your menu and why?

“One of the customer favorites is the Avocado BLT and I think it is a fun take on the normal BLT but still simple and tasty.”

 

What is YOUR favorite item on the menu and why?

“I’m a vegetarian, and we have lots of options here at River City Grill for folks like me. I always enjoy fettucine alfredo with vegetables and Cajun seasoning. We can also substitute portobello mushroom caps for any patty, as well as the famous Trempealeau walnut patties.”

 

What is your favorite food or drink from another area establishment and why?

“Personally, one of my favorite dishes from a local establishment is the Huevos Rancheros from Mango’s Mexican & American Grill. They are a favorite because they are tried and true and delicious—I know I am going to get what I asked for every time.”

 

What is one thing about this restaurant that people who have never been here should know?

“Most people know us as the old Green Mill. I think people know that because Green Mill was quite established in Winona. We still have an amazing buffet lunch that includes soup, salad, boneless and traditional wings and a variety of pizzas. For the price, I think it’s one of the best deals in Winona! We also have 23 beers on tap, and a majority of our craft beers are made here in the Midwest.”

River City Grill’s lunch buffet is available Monday-Saturday, 11am-2pm. Beginning March 3, 2024, River City Grill will also be open on Sundays, and will offer a breakfast buffet from 8am-noon.
