More than just apples, Ecker’s is an experience. Four generations continue to grow the region’s most special orchard and farm market into a family-friendly seasonal must-visit. From the train rides to the craft beer garden, and caramel apples in between, everyone walks away happy from Ecker’s.

What brought you to this profession and what do you enjoy most about it?

“I’m the 4th generation on this apple farm. I grew up here loving this orchard. Though I left Trempealeau [Wisconsin] for a career in architecture in New York City, the apples, the land, and the community drew me back home.”

What is the inspiration behind the menu at your restaurant?

“Our caramel recipe was developed by my Grandma Janet, and my dad, Peter, in 1995. It’s a product we use in almost everything we make; from dipping our caramel apples to drizzling it on our scratch apple pies.”

What is a customer favorite on your menu and why?

“Depends largely on the age of the customer! The caramel apples are a big hit with kids and the adults can’t get enough warm apple pie.”

What is YOUR favorite item on the menu and why?

“I love our apple pastries. We bake them up on weekends and drizzle them with caramel.”

What is your favorite food or drink from another area establishment and why?

“I’m a big fan of the hamburger at the Trempealeau Hotel. Thick bacon, fresh jalapeno, crisp lettuce, and pepper jack; it’s so juicy! It’s the best burger around, hands down.”

What is one thing about this restaurant that people who have never been here should know?

“Our apple pies are made by a crew of wonderful grandmothers. They work tirelessly to make hundreds of pies each week and we still run out every day!”

We love our recipes homegrown and our flavors unique. Visit Winona is showcasing a regional restaurant/foodie attraction – new, classic, and everything in between – through the lens of one of its key team members. This new series, “Winona Eats,” celebrates all the culinary adventures that await you right here in the Winona area.

Bon Appetit!
