Winona Featured in Leisure Group Travel Magazine

In the December 2019 edition of Leisure Group Travel Magazine, Winona got a big mention with a featured three day itinerary that offers great ideas for lodging, dining, outdoor, and cultural activities.

Here’s a recap of their recommended stops while in the island city…

Day 1

Check into any of the great lodging options that can accommodate groups and visit, “any of Winona’s unique restaurants with local flavors.”

Day 2

Take a, “short drive to Garvin Heights for an early panoramic view of the Mississippi River Valley.” Then visit Willet Hauser Architectural Glass to witness the “masterful techniques” that have been used in the making of stained glass masterpieces for generations. After, take a tour of some of the great glass installations around town and end at St. Stanislaus Basilica, for “stunning architecture and stained glass.”

After an afternoon shopping and lunch in historic downtown Winona, visit Signature’s Restaurant for a fine dining dinner experience. Followed dinner by taking in a Great River Shakespeare Festival play on the WSU campus if the trip coincides with their summer performances, saying, “This Professional Equity Theater attracts thousands of patrons each year.”

Day 3

After checking out of the hotel, visit the Minnesota Marine Art Museum for a scheduled docent-led tour. Of the MMAM, the article says it is, “home to a large variety of European and American Masters, including works by Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh, Cassat, Gaugin, Picasso, Matisse, O’Keeffe, and many more.” Continuing, “Proudly on display is Emanuel Leutze’s Washington Crossing the Delaware. In addition to its permanent collection, MMAM hosts more than 10 exhibitions annually.”
