Painted Portraits opens at the MMAM

Opening January 7 and running until May 20 at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum is Mary Solberg: Water Portraits. Solberg is a Minneapolis painter whose bold, iconic figurative work is influenced by religious imagery, the great master artists, vintage postcards, and circus sideshow banners. She paints people or animals living or dead, real or imagined, to venerate them on a more personal level. Solberg’s mixed media paintings incorporate metal leaf, beeswax, acrylic, texture, gems, glitter and oil to create a portrait, which celebrates the sacredness in all of us. Join Solberg on a free Gallery Walk & Talk on Saturday, January 20th from 1:00-2:00 where the artist will share her techniques and inspirations behind the exhibition. There will be a joint opening reception for her exhibition and Leo and Marilyn Smith Retrospective on Thursday, January 25 from 5:00-7:00. For more information visit http://www.mmam.org
